NYS Grants Gateway Announces Changes

NYS Grants Reform Team and Newly Formed Nonprofit Coordination Unit Announce Change to the Grants Gateway In response to feedback from nonprofit organizations, nonprofit advisory groups, and State agencies, the Grants Reform Team and Nonprofit Coordination Unit are pleased to announce enhancements to the Grants Gateway. These changes are effective March 19, 2015. Changes to Prequalification Status   Expired documents are the leading cause of nonprofits losing their prequalification status in Grants Gateway. Until now, nonprofit organizations temporarily forfeited their prequalification status if they proactively opened their Document Vault to upload new versions of their IRS990, CHAR500, and Audit Report before the existing documents expired. The new updates to Grants Gateway will make it easier for nonprofit organizations to proactively update their documents and to know when their documents are going to expire.  Moving forward, prequalified nonprofits will not lose their Prequalified status when they proactively update their documents. To make this possible, two new statuses have been added to Grants Gateway: Prequalified/Open  If a prequalified organization opens their document vault to proactively upload new documents before the old ones expire, they will be placed in the "Prequalified/Open" status Prequalified/In Review    Once the new documents are submitted and under review, the organization will be in the "Prequalified/In Review" status.   Grant applications received from nonprofit organizations in either of the new statuses at the application due date and time will be eligiblefor State agency review. Nonprofits that allow the documents in their vault to expire will continue to lose their Prequalified status. These nonprofits will be placed in a new "Document Vault Expired" status. State agencies will not review grant applications submitted by nonprofits in this status. New Email Reminder Schedule          The Grants Gateway updates also include changes to pre and post expiration emails. These emails will contain a new informative subject line and stronger language to warn of an upcoming loss of prequalification status. These emails will be sent 30, 20, and 10 days prior to expiration. If a nonprofit does lose its Prequalified status, post-expiration emails will be sent with a new informative subject line and stronger language to ensure that the nonprofit is aware of the loss of its prequalification status. These emails will be sent 1, 15, 30, and 60 days after expiration.

Local Not-For-Profits to Receive Grants from Community Fund

A number of area not-for-profit organizations are going to be given grants from a local foundation.

Forty-four organizations applied for nearly $400,000 worth of private donations made to the Community Foundation for South Central New York.

In Delaware County, the Bovina Public Library will receive $6,400 to replace the furnace and hot water heater, and the Wilson Children’s Center in Deposit will receive $15,000 dollars for general operating support. The Mount Upton United Methodist Church in Chenango County will receive $11,800 to renovate the kitchen used for a community food pantry and meal center. In Otsego County, the Richfield Springs Community Center will get 1$15,000 to pay the expenses of the executive director’s salary.

The Community Foundation for South Central New York’s Community Fund uses a competitive grant cycle. They have given out more than $8.2 million since they started in 1997.

Two New Grant Opportunities for Qualified Non-Profits in Broome and Tioga Counties The Community Foundation for SCNY is pleased to announce two new grant opportunities: The Tioga County Youth Philanthropy Council is accepting applications from qualified food pantries and early childhood providers in Tioga County. Uniform Grant Application (UGA) Technical Assistance Workshop in Oneonta

The community Foundation for South Central New York will offer a free technical assistance workshop focused on how to successfully complete the Uniform Grant Application. The workshop is open to Broome, Tioga, Chenango, Delaware & Otsego County non-profit organizations and will be held on Thursday, June 20th 2013 from 1-3PM in the Craven Lounge of the Morris Conference Center on the SUNY Oneonta campus: 1 Ravine Parkway, Oneonta, NY 13820. Participants will learn about the Foundation and receive an in depth tutorial on the UGA which will include tips and strategies on conducting need assessment and developing/measuring goals and objectives. Community Foundation for South Central New York Awards Nearly $100k in Grants

Eleven nonprofit organizations in the region, including two in Otsego County, received grants totaling $99,648 from the Community Foundation for South Central New York in the Foundation’s highly competitive Spring 2013 Community Fund grant cycle.

Forty-three organizations submitted proposals for over $465,837 in funding requests. The successful grants, which were awarded through a volunteer panel and board review process, will be used for a variety of capital projects, operations and programs at the organizations in Otsego County

Bugbee Children’s Center at SUCO in Oneonta was handed $15,000 for an outdoor learning and play space, while Morris Central Schools in Morris received $12,211 for a summer enrichment program for district students.

The Community Foundation for South Central New York, a nonprofit organization founded in 1997 and headquartered in Johnson City, encourages and facilitates personal and institutional philanthropy throughout the region by managing funds within the foundation’s endowment that are established by donors to achieve specific charitable goals.
