Director will be responsible for two after school programs, grant writing, facility operations and part-time employee. Candidate must possess excellent oral, written, and computer skills. Education required: Associate degree in child development, elementary education, recreation, or related field.  Two years experience working directly with children under the age of 13 including one year in a supervisory capacity is needed.  Salary commensurate with experience.  Send resume and letter of interest to P. Part-time Youth Program Assistant for Richfield Springs Community Center

Applicant must have knowledge of and experience in planning and implementing positive, interactive programs for youth and community.  Position will be Tuesday through Friday 2:30-5:30 working with after school programs and Friday 7-10pm with youth in grades 7 - 12.  Salary commensurate with experience.  Send resume and letter of interest to P.O. Elevate America - E-Learning training & select certification exams NOW AVAILABLE

Elevate America
In cooperation with the Microsoft Corporation, the NYS Department of Labor is pleased to offer vouchers for E-Learning training and select certification exams at no cost to you.

Vouchers are available until June 24, 2010. All vouchers must be redeemed and/or activated by June 24, 2010. Online learning vouchers, once activated, give users 12 months use of the training from the date they activated the voucher. Certification exam vouchers must be redeemed with an eligible testing center before June 24, 2010.

There are three types of vouchers:
1) General E-Learning for intermediate level technology skills training will give users a choice of pursuing a set of learning courses on a specific topic area (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) within either Windows Vista and Office 2007 –or– Office 2003.

2) A smaller number of E-Learning vouchers are available for IT Professionals.

3) Vouchers for Microsoft Business Certification Exams which enable a user to pursue a no cost exam in one topic area (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.). One Voucher will allow a user to pursue one exam in either Office 2003 –or– Office 2007.

TO REQUEST VOUCHERS: To conform with Microsoft Corporation’s requirements, only individual employees, not businesses, can request these E-learning collections. Individual workers can request vouchers by completing the attached form and returning it by e-mail or fax to Alan Sessions at alan.sessions@labor.state.ny.us or (Fax) 607-432-8130. Their requests will be processed to NYS Dept. of Labor’s Central Office in Albany. That office will e-mail the voucher numbers directly to the employee to use to access their E-learning at http://www.microsoft.com/about/corporatecitizenship/us/communityinvestment/elevateamerica.aspx

Employees Volunteer Services to Charities and Nonprofits, Fostering Potential New Customer Relationships

Some small businesses are following the recession playbook of the unemployed.

Just as many laid-off workers are volunteering more to fill up their free time and enhance their résumés, small-business owners and their employees are doing more pro bono services or volunteer work as a marketing and customer-relations strategy.

The recession hit Studio G Architects Inc. of Boston particularly hard last fall, causing 2008 revenue to drop 30% from the prior year, says Gail Sullivan, the principal. Clients of the 16-year-old architectural firm killed or put on hold 10 projects last October. With work slowing down, the company began providing 15 to 20 hours a week in pro bono services to keep employees occupied and potentially attract future contracts. It worked.

This spring the firm prepared preliminary design projects, such as a playground for severely handicapped children, for various charities. The projects later received full funding and Studio G obtained several contracts, which ranged in value from $16,000 to $100,000. "Offering the pro bono services has given us a chance to maintain our design vigor [and] resulted in people hiring us," Ms. Sullivan says.

For a small business that has lost clients or seen revenue-generating projects dry up, performing free work is a way to keep employees engaged while cultivating new relationships. Donating services to charity groups, churches, schools and other nonprofits can "increase local visibility, deepen local business ties and create opportunity for new business," says Christine Banning, vice president of marketing and communications at SCORE, a Washington-based group that provides free counseling to small businesses. Arts in Crisis Support Offered

Arts in Crisis: A Kennedy Center Initiative is a program designed to provide planning assistance and consulting to struggling arts organizations throughout the United States. Open to non-profit 501(c)(3) performing arts organizations, the program will provide counsel from Kennedy Center President Michael Kaiser and the Kennedy Center executive staff in the areas of fundraising, building more effective Boards of Trustees, budgeting, marketing, technology, and other areas pertinent to maintaining a vital performing arts organization during a troubled economy.
