Beatrice Georgalidis as Executive Director. Georgalidis will work directly with Bertha Rogers, Founding Director, through December, when Rogers will retire her position in the organization she and Ernest M. Fishman founded in 1992.
Along with directing the Bright Hill College Internship program, Georgalidis will concentrate on marketing, fund-raising, and long-range planning as the organization heads into its 26th year. Rogers will continue to develop and expand Bright Hill's literary and visual arts programs and book publishing.
Georgalidis's appointment is made possible by the REDC (Rural Economic Development Council) grant for projects designed to enhance and transform the cultural and economic vitality of New York State communities. Arts and culture activities enrich and strengthen community, civic and social life in New York State. Successful proposals, such as Bright Hill's, demonstrate significant economic and community development impact that positions arts, culture and heritage at the core of local development and revitalization efforts.
Georgalidis has worked in film and television for ten years, producing commercials, films and live-television events for, among others, Sundance Channel, MTV, and VH1. A writer, she was educated at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts Dramatic Writing Program, and has a BS degree in Mass Communications from SUNY Oneonta, where she was honored as Best and Brightest in 2014. Her professional history includes managing The Players Club, a private estate on Gramercy Park in New York City, where she produced large-scale events for clients, including George Clooney and Disney, as well as extensive work in Los Angeles with best-selling author and Congressional candidate Marianne Williamson, and the post-production team at USA Films.
While at Cornell Medical College for a four-year term, she served as Administrative Coordinator of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology (on the forefront of AIDS, cancer and tuberculosis research), where her career as a grant writer began. In 2012, she founded her multidisciplinary company Certain Grants. She has worked with more than forty clients, writing grants, producing advertising and fundraising campaigns, and creating digital content. She has been published in Oprah magazine and is the recipient of numerous writing awards.
Bright Hill's 2017, 25th anniversary programs are made possible by grants from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature; Otis A. Thompson; A. Lindsay and Olive B. O'Connor; Dewar, and Tianaderrah Foundations; Stewart's Shops; the Abraham Kellogg Education Fund; the Delaware Youth Bureau, through the auspices of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services; the Delaware National Bank of Delhi, Delaware County Office of Economic Development, and with the support of Bright Hill's members and friends. Bright Hill's facilities include the Bright Hill Community Library, home to more than 12,000 books and literary and art periodicals than may be borrowed by local residents. The organization and library are located at 94 Church Street, Treadwell, NY 13846. Contact 607-829-5055 or wordthur@stny.rr.com for more information.
