CORE is a program started in October of 2011 and funded by
Appalachian regional commission with the main goal of workforce alignment. The creators of our program developed this
idea in response to the economic unrest we have seen effect small communities like
ours since 2008. In an effort to achieve our goal the creators set out to ask
businesses what they were lacking in employees.
Two things were made clear; Employers want people with soft skills and
can’t find them and that a barrier exists between educators, businesses and job
seekers.
In an effort to address these concerns CORE has begun
offering classes at Milford Central School. March 1st and 2nd was
the launch of our first classes: an entrepreneurship class and an introductory
computer class. The classes have been
well attended and we are now scheduling our next round of classes. Those classes will include a personal finance
class and a grant writing class.
We have been developing partnerships throughout the county
for the past six months and have been able to work with CDO workforce, DCMO and
ONC BOCES, CROP Program, Oneonta Adult Education Program just to name a few. We
are interested in receiving feedback from: educators, business owners and
community members about what classes would be beneficial.
In addition to offering classes, our website is a wealth of
information and as it continues to evolve will be indispensable to job seekers
and employers alike. Classes and dates
will be posted on the website as these are finalized.
