Steering Committee Sets Dates and Program Agenda for 2010

Meeting Date: Thursday the 21st, 10 am
Steering Committee participants: Debra Marcus, Planned Parenthood; Terry Capuano, United Way; Susan Kenny, Roxbury Arts Group; Lori Solensten, Nonprofit Volunteer

Programs will be from 9:30am to 11:30am on the following dates (2nd Wed of the month):
• April 14th
• June 9th
• September 8th
• November 10th

Location: Program locations will be at FoxCare Wellness Center’s Education Room (if they can be confirmed- I have called them and given dates and times)

Program Ideas:
• Challenges and management of volunteers
o Different types of volunteers (board, staff/program, interns)
o Volunteers have cost and time requirement
o Recruitment
o Maintaining, motivating and engagement
o Appreciation and recognition
o Benefit (tracking, impact, etc)
o Supervision and accountability (firing a volunteer)
o Policies (personnel policies, confidentially, emergency contacts, volunteer manual, board manual, term limits, attendance policy, job descriptions, tracking)

Theme for year- Volunteers: The Good, Bad and Ugly
Program topics:
• April 14th: Core Policies for Your Volunteers, Board and Staff
o Panel discussion featuring nonprofit professionals sharing and discussing policies for the board, volunteers and interns.
• June 9th: Volunteers
o Challenges and management of volunteers
• September 8th: Board
o Challenges and working with the board of directors
• November: Interns
o Challenges and management of interns

Next Steps:
• Recruit panelists for April 14th program
• Send out Survey to AEA members asking for additional ideas on the proposed programs
• Approach newspaper and radio with details about program(s)
